This is the first ‘cross race at the Burning Kiln Winery and the gang is excited. The course has some sand, gravel and a lot of grass. There are some flat out fast sections and some more technical turns where the mad’cross skills will help you get a gap. Most of the course is visible from the start/finish/registration area this time.
The start is on a pavement climb leading into a nice fast downhill. With about 1k to go you will hit the Bateman’s Barriers then straight into the Beer Tent. Some people have weddings in there, but we thought it would be more fun to have a bike race through there.
Beer Tent Selection
- New Limburg
- Blue Elephant
- Hometown Brew
- Rambling Road
There will also be Beef Chili for sale. Cash and credit available.
There is a food truck located at Long Point Eco-Adventures (where you will park) which will be serving
- Jalapeno Poppers
- Butternut Squash Soup with a Risotto Croguette
- House Made Burger
- Sausage on a bun with sauerkraut
There will also be two red and two white Burning Kiln wines served. The tasting bar will be open for further tastings and purchases.
The Substance ‘cross races are Citizens events so we will be focusing on having a great challenging course and great organization for the pros, but keeping it super fun and open to complete newbs. Don’t have a proper cross bike? No problem! We have a category for that.. we even have a Fat Bike category. And kids/youth racing.
Looking for a little more riding? The Turkey Point MTB Club trails start at the parking area so you can always head out for a spin and checkout what they have to offer as a cool down.
It’s going to be a blast.
- If you have an OCA License or any UCI License bring it. If you don’t, fill out the waiver and get a Non-Member one-day license.
