Race 3 in the Cannondale Ontario Fat Bike Series p/b 45NRTH
It is all new! We are excited to work with the gang at Devil's Glen to bring you a new race with a new vibe. Starting and finishing by the chalet the course will wind down a pleasant valley before tackling a long gradual climb up to the top of the hill. Some parts will be familiar if you did the Eager Beaver 100...
The registration will be inside the chalet along with post race food and podiuming. (yeah, it's a verb, deal with it) We have over $1500 in draw prizes lined up so stick around, you might win some sweet fat bike schwag!
The Devil's Glen Country Club is the host for Registration and Start/Finish and provides the most picturesque setting we have ever raced in. Devil's Glen is nestled within the Niagara Escarpment on nearly 600 acres of spectacular countryside, just 1 1/2 hours north of Toronto and 20 minutes south of Collingwood. It has something for everyone in your family; from beginner slopes to some of the most challenging runs in Ontario, including an advanced Terrain Park. And we are going to ride bikes there!
Where: 1793 County Road 124 Glen Huron, ON L0M 1L0
Pre-Riding: Pre-riding is available Friday and Saturday however, we ask that you park 'up top'. Use the location in the map below to find the upper parking lot and go for a rip. But remember, the trails are multi-use so there could be people snowshoeing, XC-Skiing, or maybe the odd dog. So take it easy and keep your head up. Saturday is pretty busy with club members out snowshoeing so remember to yield right-of-way. Also the area in front of the chalet will not be fenced off and controlled until Sunday so go super slow and watch out for skiers. The course picks up beside the frozen pond.
When: February 11, 2018. Registration is 10-11 am. Race starts at High Noon!
Late registration pricing starts February 7! Don't wait until the last minute!!! (online registration closes 7pm February 9, but there will be day-of registration, cash only)
How Long: The course is 9k long. Long course will be 4 laps, short course will be 2 laps. These are the maximum. It is fatbike racing so things are usually amazing, but sometimes the temperature drops, or you just feel slow as molasses in January (or February) and the last lap is just no fun. So as long as you finish a lap it wont be a DNF, just down a lap. Like in cyclocross or 'endurance racing' (24 hr, 8 hr races) Want to win the beer? Keep racing. Want to chill and enjoy chili early? That's cool to. There will be a LeMans start. We found a nice big area to line up the bikes while we go over the details on the deck of the chalet. Don't worry, it is a super short run.
Permitted Tire Sizes: New for 2018 we have a Chubby Cat. There is a 3.0 - 3.5 x 27.5/29 Category. Or we have the age based categories for 3.7 and up bikes.
Who is it for: Everyone who likes to ride bikes and wants to get out to a fun event at a new location. Don't have a fat bike? Well guess what, there are lots of places to buy a saweeeeeet new Fat Caad. There are also shops who will rent one to you for the day.
Food: There will be our usual finish chili and a licensed ski chalet to keep you well fed after the race.Strava Segment: Everyone has climbing segments, so we have a 'top of the climb' segment to keep you pinning it across the top! (Pretty sure the pace will be a lot higher on race day ;) )
