The Kingston Trophy is back! The course will be off the charts as always. Rob has been busy with the rest of the MTB Kingston trail crew building all sorts of crazy for the last year and a half. Come and see what everyone is talking about.
Registration will open Thursday September 23 at 9:00 AM
15km Morning Race
Starting off in the morning we will have an Individual Time Trial start ~15km one-lap race. The field will be limited to 100 riders so sign up fast. Riders will start at 30 second intervals in cohorts of 25 with a 3 minute gap between cohorts. This is a perfect place for younger riders and anyone who is interested in trying their first race. Lots of excitement and fun on a marked course while you try to set your fastest time without worrying about riding in a big group all. All the race, none of the stress.
45km Afternoon Race
The next group will start at 12:30 and will tackle the 15 km course 3 times. But they will be starting in groups of 8 riders every 30 seconds. So lots of close racing over the first obstacles and other crazy stuff, with another group to chase and another 8 right behind. Start times will be based on category. The start line will be wide enough to accommodate 4 riders with 3m between each.
It is a new format for bike racing, and it should be a lot of fun! Along with Colin McClellan as DJ/Emcee

The afternoon riders will start in groups up to 11 riders comprised of one category
Some categories with fewer entrants will start together like Fat Bike and Single Speed
There is a wide open area for the start and all riders will be on the front row. The trail stays open for quite a while so go for the holeshot but don’t be to bothered if you don’t get it
Check webscorer.com/1762 for results and stick around for podium if you are in the top 3.
As riders are starting in their category groups podium will be done asap when the top three have been finished for 3 minutes. Please keep an eye on results and stick around if you are on the podium, but stay 3m apart.
Course signage will be our usual orange arrows on white background. There will also be Caution Tape in open areas, and possibly some small cones in wide open areas. Any area with cones will be VERY clear. It is a pretty consistent loop so keep on the trail and you will be good to go. At some places there will be an X indicating the wrong turn. Don’t go down a trail/track with an X.
Insurance for the event and sanctioning will be provided by the Ontario Cycling Association. All participants must be a member of the OCA with a citizens permit or a race license or an affiliate UCI body. An Affiliate Club Membership does not provide insurance for racing and you will need to upgrade to a Citizens Permit with the OCA or, for a nominal cost, we will be offering a one day membership at registration.
Substance Projects Weather Guarantee
Weather is always challenging and can completely change a race. So we developed the Substance Projects 100% Weather Guarantee. We Guarantee that 100% of the course will have weather. If any section of the course doesn’t have weather we will refund you that percentage of your entry fee upon proof that there was no weather.
We have a strict ‘No Whining’ policy. If it was all easy and downhill then it wouldn’t feel like you have accomplished anything!
These are races for everyone! In the spirit of equity and inclusion we celebrate difference and especially encourage those who have historically been excluded from sport. See our Inclusion Statement on our ‘About’ page
Cancellation and Refunds
For 2021 there will be NO REFUNDS for those who can’t make it on race day or for cancellation of the event for any reason. If the event cannot proceed registrants will have their entry carried over to the re-scheduled date or have credit for another Substance Projects Event.
Pre-riding will be available ONLY for those who are registered for the race. These trails are all 100 % private and are patrolled to ensure that only insured riders are using them. You must also stay on the trails used for the race course. To pre-ride you will need a day pass for the trails. Email [email protected] for contact information to get your day pass on friday.
